Every time the ice cream man drives by, it’s nearly impossible to stop myself from chasing him down like a boisterous five-year-old with a pocketful of change. It’s not just the alluring music {it gets me every time}; no, I’m also crazy about the Rocket popsicles, Freezies, ice cream sandwiches…

…the list goes on, and on… and on.

It’s hot out, and I want a delicious frozen treat, dammit.

Of course, much to my chagrin, I must act my age; so I’ve opted to make my own healthy alternative. These Cherry Plum Popsicles are chock full of vitamins, are fat free, and have no artificial sweeteners, colours, or preservatives.

I guess it is okay to act my age.

Cherry Plum Popsicle - Global Dish - Stephanie Arsenault

Cherry Plum Popsicles
Makes 6

Ingredients:
½ cup pitted cherries, plus 3 cherries, halved and pitted
1 large black plum, stone removed
¼ cup milk or milk alternative
½ teaspoon honey
¼ teaspoon vanilla

Instructions:
1. Place all ingredients, except for the 3 halved cherries, in a blender and pulse until almost smooth.

2. Drop one cherry half in each popsicle mould, and then pour the cherry and plum mixture into the moulds. Insert sticks and freeze for at least four hours.

3. Before serving, run popsicles under hot water to loosen moulds.
